Catchin’ up

November 19th, 2009

I totally just realized i have pretty much abandoned my blog :( The thing is, im always full of excuses, and my excuse for not blogging would have to be no time really.. Work has been pretty busy lately, with all my huge stacks of papers to enter it’s pretty hard to get a moment to do anything else besides work and when i finally get home, i dread getting near the computer! I spend 8+ hours a day on it, anything more than that is way too much for me! and that’s why i wanna get a MacBook Pro!! well that’s not why but it would be REALLY nice to have one! Believe it or not, i have NEVER had a computer i can call my own. It makes me feel shitty in a way because everyone and their mothers has one nowadays except for me.. but that is all about to change here pretty soon… I have been looking at MacBooks recently and decided that’s it’s about time for me to get one, the thing is they are ridiculously expensive so now i either have to work OT and save for one or quit buying food LOL.

Anywayz… like i was saying, these past few months have been pretty crazy over here on this side of town, we moved to our new office building at the beginning of October and it has been non-stop work since. Our new office is coming along pretty nicely! We now have two lounge rooms! one has a 55″ tv, leather recliners, wii, ps3, xbox (i think), rockband set and other things. We also have an official break room, official conference room, officical females restroom!! (the males used to always use ours) two males restrooms, a shower, photography room for storage devices, gym (work in progress), huge production facility and more.

Below are some pictures of our production facility from the first week we moved into our new building. I will upload more as soon as i take more, its looking quite busy right now!

OSCON 2009

September 4th, 2009

Wow, it’s been a long time!

I’ve been meaning to post some of the pictures i took at oscon this year but i’ve just been so busy… well, more like lazy and busy at the same time :p Anyway, we had a really good time, i had never attended oscon before, this was my first time and i hear that it was  A LOT bigger than it used to be, it almost seemed like linux world last year minus all the costumes. I was only there for half a day the first day and half the next day. There were less people than i expected but it was still a good show.

Here are some of the pix!

This is me, Raquel (Marketing Assitant @ iXsystems and Denise (Marketing Director @ iXsystems)

BSD Mag has been SAVED!! = )

July 7th, 2009

So i just found out BSD Magazine has been saved! This was due to an increase of sales, so we can all be thankful for that and also thank everyone that helped out = )

We will be helping with editing, article contribution and promotions.

Lets keep up the sales so this doesn’t have to happen again.

PLEASE HELP SAVE BSD MAG!!

June 30th, 2009

Hey guys,

So i just found out that BSD Magazine might not be cancelled if the sales increase significantly till the end of this week…

The publishers are questioning whether the sales dropped due to the economy or due the lack of interest in the magazine. Please help by purchasing any of the latest three issues at freebsdmall.com, this would be VERY helpful and it might help keep the magazine around!

Thanks!! = )

BSD Magazine has been cancelled :(

June 26th, 2009

The publisher of BSD Magazine has decided to cancel the magazine due to lower profits than expected. This is very sad news :( We had actually just started to send out letters and magazines to companies we thought would benefit from readers of BSD Mag. but unfortunately, it was a little too late. Oh well.. at least we tried saving it! Who knows though, maybe it’ll come back eventually.

R.I.P. BSD Mag.

If you’d like to make a purchase of the magazine, freebsdmall.com has them available. The last issue that will appear in stores will be the 04/2009 issue.

iXsystems Picnic!

June 25th, 2009

I LOVE picnics! Picnics are a must, specially in the summer time. We’ve been having company picnic’s for the past 3 years now. The first one was definitely the least wild out of all, the second one has got to be the wildest we’ve had, this years picnic was in between. I must say that last years was a lot of fun, one of my co-workers came up with the idea of making a beer bong out of supplies he purchased at home depot. The result was this:

The Excommunicator!

As you can see, everyone had a blast haha… Believe it or not, ive NEVER done a beer bong! wait a min… maybe i did once but i cant really remember so i guess i’ll say i havent.. I dunno what’s worse, a beer bong or a keg stand, ive done a keg stand before so i guess i’ll have to try out the beer bong soon haha! Although, i have not been shit faced in a really LONG time. I rather wake up early on my days off and go out for a nice hike or something ; )

Anywayz… Here are some pictures from this year’s picnic:

As you can see, this one was a lot mellower. We still got two kegs, one of hefeweizen which is one of my absolute favorites and some other dark ale. The Excommunicator was definitely missed.. maybe it will come back for the next one! We still had a good time, it wasn’t as sunny or warm as last year but it was still nice.

PS

We did have food, not just beer haha.. in case you’re wondering.

Finally upgraded to Galileo 7.1

June 23rd, 2009

I know im a little late hehe.. but i finally upgraded to 7.1! I’ve been trying it out for about 3 weeks now and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE it!  I was previously on Edison 1.5.1 which was cool but NEVER like 7.1

This has been a big change for me, I went from not being able to watch videos unless i was using Firefox (Win) which still looked kindda crappy  to being  able to watch anything i want or view any page that requires flash!! =D  I love the fact that now i can use Amarok and last.fm without having any issues like i did before when i was on 1.5. One of my favorites so far is being able to use the “street view” option on google maps hahaha… I know its silly but it is quite entertaining. The only thing that would make pc-bsd absolutely perfect would be if i could install the itunes app., that’s really the only reason i keep going back to windows, i have an iphone so i kindda need it for that.

Here’s a quick snap shot of how i customized my colors:

You like?? =P

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland!

June 23rd, 2009

So i dunno if you guys already know this but Tim Burton is doing a remake of Alice in Wonderland!!! Im so EXCITED and can’t wait for it to come out! I have always loved that movie, im actually having my tattoo artist working on an Alice in Wonderland half sleeve for me = )  Hopefully i have it done within the next 5 months.

Also, guess who’s gonna be playing the Mad Hatter??

Johnny Depp!!!

I know im not the only one who totally <3’s him haha… but they couldn’t have picked anyone better for this movie. This movie is totally gonna rule!!!

May 27th, 2009

Im sure some of you have already heard of this but i just wanted to say that Matt Olander, CTO of iXsystems is going to be attending MSC Malaysia Open Source Conference this year. He is going to be giving a talk about surviving the economy downturn with PC-BSD and open source applications.  The conference will be from May 31st to June 3rd at the Berjaya times square hotel and covention center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Here’s a link for more info about this conference: http://www.mscmalaysia.my/article/open+Source+Conference/open+Source+Conference

He will also be showing a little video he recorded of us using PC-BSD in our office. I’ll try to upload it if i can permission to do so, or maybe some pictures too!
